Imbalanced cardio vs. strength training.

Depending on your workout habits, you may be doing a bunch of cardio and not enough strength training to get the results you want. Now, if you’re delighted with the results you’re getting from burning all those calories during cardio, that’s awesome. But strength training gets your body to burn calories even while you aren’t working out. It develops lean muscle mass that can make your cardio workouts smoother.

Getting stuck on the elliptical.

You can get a fantastic workout on an elliptical, but if your fitness world shrinks to this one machine, you’re missing out on a lot. You’ll get more results from exercises that involve natural body movement like jumping, bending, or running. The elliptical burns calories without giving you any other benefits. If you’re stuck on the elliptical due to bad knees and you need low-impact exercises, try out the rowing machine. It will burn those calories while working your back and upper body.

Falling into an exercise rut.

When was the last time you tried a new exercise? Many of us fall into routines, and while routines can be powerful, they can also become traps. Your body gets used to the exercises you repeat and therefore burns less and less energy to complete them. Change up your workouts and trick your body into working hard again. You’ll also save yourself from boredom.

Spending long periods of time exercising at a moderate pace.

Do you work out for a long time but you still don’t see the results you want? It’s because you aren’t using your time wisely. You can get massive results from just 30 minutes of exercise — you just have to up the intensity.

Depending on sports drinks for hydration.

Gatorade may give you a boost, but, like many other sports drinks, it’s mainly sugar. If you feel like you don’t have enough energy during your workouts, fuel up with a healthy snack 45 minutes before your workout begins. Depend on only water for your hydration needs.
